Internship

During my internship I taught the following classes.

Information Processing 20 – This was my class that I had all the way through my internship. During this course I completed the following units; Intermediate Microsoft Word, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Desktop Publishing and Web Page Development. I tried to integrate new technology into the class such as blogs, wikispaces and Google documents. I believe that with technology changing so often, we need to work hard at keeping up with it. Every chance I got, I tried to make the learning as relevant to the students’ lives as possible.

Accounting 10 – I taught chapters 4-9 using the Century 21 Accounting textbook. This course has been developed so well and it was fun to teach! I developed some of my own handouts and resources for the students to use along with the textbook. It was interesting to use the computer software Simply Accounting as well because it gave me a chance to learn something new.

Math 9 – I completed one unit in this class and was told by my co-op that the students often struggle with this unit. I developed a worksheet for the students that involved some hands on measurements around the school. The students really enjoyed this because they weren’t sitting in their desks learning the material.

Math 11/21 – This is a modified math class so the students were all working independently on different modules. I didn’t teach actual lessons, but created some activities involving real life topics to give students a break from their work books. The classroom management was difficult at times because a lot of these students are at risk.

Career 9 – There is no curriculum for this course, so I was able to pick and choose areas and topics that I thought were relevant to the students. I really enjoyed the freedom to be able to choose topics that were valuable to the students in some way.
