Cyberbulling a Crime?

While browsing through my Google reader account, I came across an article about the Canadian Teachers Federation meeting. During this meeting, it was unanimously decided that cyberbullying should be a criminal offence.

At one point in this article is states that the Internet is the new playground. This really made me stop and think about how true that really is. It seems as though a lot of people think they can say whatever they want over the Internet and will never get caught. It seems as though some people think they can get away with cyberbullying because no one can see them.

Cyberbullying is a type of abuse and just because it isn’t physical, it can still cause a lot of pain. I think that if cyberbullying becomes a criminal offence people will begin to think twice about what they are saying and doing over the Internet.

I do have questions as to how they will catch everyone because I know someone who had someone stocking them on the internet and the police said they are swamped with internet cases such as that. What are everyones thoughts and opinions? Do you think it will become a criminal offence and if it does, do you think it will prevent people from committing the crime?
